Informed MPS Voter Pledge

Over the next year in Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), a new school board will be selecting a new leader for the school district, managing a difficult budget situation, and most importantly, addressing an academic crisis that has only been made worse by three consecutive years of interrupted learning. In this moment, who Minneapolis chooses to represent them on the school board will be one of the most consequential decisions for the future of MPS.

With such an important decision in the hands of Minneapolis voters, it is the responsibility of Minneapolis residents to be informed on the biggest issues facing MPS and how the candidates plan to address these issues. The Advancing Equity Coalition (AEC) has engaged students, parents, educators, principals, district staff, and community members to develop an issue platform to elevate six of the most important issues facing MPS students, especially students of color and Indigenous students.

The Pledge:

I pledge to vote by November 8th, 2022 in the upcoming Minneapolis school board election and to research how school board candidates plan to address issues in:

  • Academics
  • Multilingual Learners
  • Student Well Being
  • Special Education
  • Financial Management
  • Teachers of Color
